Unit 5: Organize Activities for Yourself and Others

Time is always of the essence and Google realizes that every hour, let alone second, of the day counts. We can stay organized via Gmail and Calendar. A new Google App was introduced in this unit called Keep and is used to continue to stay organized.

Keep Track of Your Class Schedules and Appointments Using Google Calendar

When sharing a Calendar, Google offers a tip of allowing people to see when you are busy, but not what you are busy with. You do not want your personal calendar’s titles to carry over to the student’s calendars. Not all events must be put on the user’s personal calendars as well as any other calendars created.

Get More Organized

Google Tasks is another feature found within Gmail and Google Calendar to stay organized. Tasks allows you to created detailed to-do lists using daily emails. Google Tasks takes the content of an email and sends it to your Google Calendar with all of the information included.  Multiple tasks lists for different projects can also be created.

These tasks can now be compared to a Google Doc with everyone adding information. It allows for a quicker and easier use for educators on the go. Often times we forget things on our to-do list so Google Keep has a date reminder feature. Not only would an alert be sent to ourselves, but if we shared the Task with multiple contacts, a reminder will be sent to everyone about which items need to be addressed and by when. Google Keep has a camera feature so the user can upload pictures directly from a camera, phone, or photo gallery and keep them organized and categorized.

Summary

I have often been overwhelmed with so many tasks to complete that I have to-do lists for my to-do lists. By using Google Tasks, all of my tasks can be in one specific place. If I find that I need a more advanced task list, I can use Google Keep to upload pictures from my phone or if I am working on a group project, I can use Google Keep to keep everyone able to meet deadlines.
